Mind Traffic Control

Mind Traffic Control

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace Romans 8 v 6

Have you ever considered the condition of your thoughts? We will go to the gym to workout our bodies, see a doctor to improve our health and choose to eat well to benefit our digestion, however do we look after our mind?

I have been meditating on the verse of scripture in Romans 8 v 6 that says that a mind that is controlled by the spirit of God is peaceful and life affirming. I don’t know about you but I certainly want my thoughts to be filled with peaceful thoughts and not toxic, negative ones.

The mind is very much controlled by what we see and hear. We live in a digital age where messages come at us constantly. 24 hour news, instant messaging and social media feeds our minds every minute of every day with information. Some of it good, life affirming and positive, some of it not so good.

Our minds are being fed by a variety of channels daily but one in particular is particularly destructive and harmful and that is the one emanating from the enemy. Yes, our minds are under attack by Satan and he is looking for ways to pollute our minds and our hearts with his lies and negative words. He will attempt to invade our minds with lies - that we are not good enough - pretty enough - able enough. He will tempt our minds with lustful images in an attempt to lure us into sin. Just as the world has entered onto the social media platform, so to has the enemy and he will use every channel to send us messages that will pollute and destroy our minds.

But here’s the good news, we have a choice. We have a choice what we think about and what messages we receive. Have you ever had to block someone on social media? Perhaps someone that was not kind to you or hurt you? Maybe they were a toxic influence on you and you therefore had to protect your personal space from them. Well we can do that with the enemy too. We can block him from sending us destructive messages in order to protect our minds. The Apostle Paul wrote in the book of 2 Corinthians 10 v 5 that we are to take captive our thoughts and make them obedient to Christ. We can be our own Mind Traffic Controller, diverting away any negative thoughts and landing only the positive, peace filled and life affirming ones.

So the next time you are scrolling through social media, listening to a conversation or looking at something online, have a think about your thoughts. Is this conversation you are having speaking peace and life into your mind or is this a conversation you would be better off out of. Is the image on the screen filling your mind with good things or is it causing you to sin? Because we have the choice whether to allow our minds to be governed by the flesh or be controlled by the spirit of God.

Until next time
