On the 1st Day of Christmas my First Love gave to me:- A gift that has arrived on time

Every year at Christmas there is always that popular gift or toy that everyone is waiting for. Some people wait for months for the latest gadget to be released or queue for hours at the launch of a new mobile phone. Have you ever worried that you wouldn’t receive what you have waited for or perhaps you have been anxious that the delivery wouldn’t arrive on time? That’s the thing about Christmas, there is always that chance that you won’t get what you really want. What is the special gift that you are patiently waiting for this year?

How many times in Christmas’s past have you waited patiently for something special only to discover that the real thing didn’t live up to your expectations? No one wants to experience feelings of disappointment at any time of year let alone at Christmas. So today’s reflection comes with good news. Good news that the greatest gift anyone could ever receive is ready now for collection and there is no need to wait.

The greatest gift ever given is Jesus and there were those that waited patiently for him to arrive for many years. 600 years before he was even born, the prophets proclaimed that he would come. Isaiah said that he would be born of a virgin; Micah prophesised that he would be born in Bethlehem; and the prophet Jeremiah said that the Messiah would be a descendant of David; and all were fulfilled. That a saviour would be born for us “And he will be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.

If you are still waiting for that precious gift, the good news today is that you don’t need to wait anymore. As unlike the prophets who could only wait and wonder, our gift has already been freely given. All you need to do is receive it.
